Stand Your Ground in Wisconsin?

Did you know that Wisconsin has a “Stand Your Ground” law (also called The Castle Doctrine) similar to the one in Florida that has been in the news since February?  It’s true.  It passed the Assembly and Senate in November 2011, signed into law by Governor Walker and published last December,  It started out as Assembly Bill 69 and ended as 2011 Wisconsin Act 94.  Our Assemblyman, Garey Bies, voted in favor of it.  So did our Senator, Frank Lasee, who also is a cosponsor.

Laws of this subject are heavily promoted by the NRA and based upon model legislation developed by American Legislative Exchange Council (A.L.E.C.), a conservative organization comprised of politicians and corporations including Walmart (a major gun retailer).
